Our Pitch

For Our first pitch, there could be an action movie about a man being hunted down by different hunters due to his past actions and his high bounty. The other pitch is also action-related, ex special forces gets revenge for his killed family. The Criminal boss is in a photo with the special forces man while they were in the military. 

For this first pitch, it sounds interesting to us because the fast-pacing movement of the scenes will be able to provide a great amount of content to be shown. For this pitch, there could be many types of camera angles that could be used to pop off the characters such as tracking shots of movement, low angle to represent power, and a long shot to represent bounty hunters surrounding the protagonist. There would be a variety of props that could also be used such as bounty posters and weapons, and also costumes that would give off a cool-looking style to the characters. We feel as if action movies can provide context as to what conflict is going on very quickly and flexible to the viewer at their beginning sequences. Not only can there also be a good use of props and costumes but also locations presented can range from big city chase or a wide area full of trees and dirt to hide through. 

In this next pitch, there is more to the plot that is being provided to get the viewer to become more invested to see what is to come from the conflict. This pitch allows the viewer to keep on running their thoughts to try and figure out the plot, “why did they kill his family?” “What are they doing together in a photo?”. The setting of this story would be able to portray the same color and feeling that the plot gives off, beginning with a dark, gloomy rain of the protagonist and then transition to a crazy run-in with the criminals in an abandoned area. Different types of camera angles can also show the difference in power, using low angle camera and also high angle, to represent the protagonist and antagonist. There would have to be many action scenes where the protagonist would head on and take 1-on-1's, and heck, maybe even use props, such as fake guns. 

Finally, after talking over which of the two pitches us three had liked the most, we all decided on the second pitch! The ex special force story provides great plot, good action ideas, and great contrast between antagonist and protagonist.

After looking over each genre, we decided that, in order for our pitch to be correctly formatted, that the thriller genre would fit. We came to this reason because the thriller genre is almost exactly how we want the opening sequence for our pitch to be like, scenes full of suspense and avid movements. The reason why horror genre wouldn’t work for our pitch was due to the plot having no horror sense at all. The plot of our pitch is greatly action-related and a horror genre wouldn't fit to all the scenes having more movement. Our opening sequence is based on a rivalry, not some upper entity who controls all of the environment around the protagonist, which is why horror genre would also not be a good fit. My takeaway from the video was: Start by coming up with an idea for your short film. This could be inspired by a personal experience, a news story, or just a concept that you find interesting. Write a script for your short film. This should include dialogue, action, and descriptions of the setting and characters. Gather a team of people to help bring your short film to life. This may include actors, a director, a cinematographer, and other crew members. Create a shot list and storyboard for your short film. This will help you visualize each scene and plan out the camera angles and movements. Set up a schedule for filming and rehearse with your cast and crew. Make sure everyone knows their roles and is prepared for the shoot. Choose locations for filming that are suitable for your script and storyboard. Genre Research - Horror

  Common Camera Angles: High Angle: These kinds of shots are used in horror films to make the figure or object that is looked down upon seem completely powerless and vulnerable. Close Up: These shots are used to see reactions on the actors face. This shot shows the most emotion from characters and captures detail in an important scene. Panning Shot: These shots connotes movement. This is used very effectively in horror films to make out a character being followed or watched  Tilted Angle: Tilted shots add a lot of attention to shots, and could simplify a supernatural being, for example pushing or moving the camera.
