Time For Revision

Image
After finishing the raw editing of the film, I had let the others in the group know that I was done with the raw sequence, letting them decide on what should be next in the to-do list. They were taking quite awhile to decide on what to do, having to need an extra day to think on what would be next on tweaking. Finally, after that long time, I and the rest of the group have decided that the sequence would have to follow the backup plan in order to create a better title sequence. The backup plan meant that more recording would need to be done and new scenes will have to be produced to better fit the title sequence. As much as I and some of the others didn't want to re-record, we all agreed on making up the scenes and meeting up. It would be awhile before we could all meetup and record the extra scenes, with school keeping most of us busy. Based on what I saw filmed in the rough draft, most of the beginning scenes would have to be make-up as well as some of the ending scene. Once we h

The Final Edits

Finally, every scene has been finally produced and film, now all that's left to do is to edit and put them all together. I would be quite some time until I would continue to edit the rest of the sequence, but after resting for awhile, I finally started to work on the sequence again. The last time I worked on the editing of the sequence, I only edited the scenes that were produced with only me in the scenes/the scenes that were easy to film without the whole group. Now that all the scenes have been filmed however, I will now be able to finish this sequence up. I started by importing all the remaining scenes missing into the editor to put them all together. This actually took a long time to do due to the great amount of clips added to the editor, lasting about an hour. Once imported, I immediately started to place them chronologically, putting each clip in their specific spot of the sequence. Once that was done and set, I moved on to the beginning fighting scenes and added the specif

The First Edits

Image
The scenes we edited first were scenes 1-20. We edited these first because these were the first ones we filmed on the days before.  I'm using an editing software called shotcut, its really good and surprisingly free. Anyway lets get back to the important stuff. I sent all the film I took on my phone and emailed it to myself. On my pc I opened Gmail and downloaded the video clips. I uploaded them into shot cut and got to work. We were going for a nostalgic effect with this music video so I looked for a grainy filter. There were lots to try from and I found the one I liked. I applied it to the video and voila, magic. Already everything was building up in my head on how to perfect this music video. I cut the clips with parts that were unneeded and and a little bit of a blur when doing the transitions between clips so it looked as if everything was filmed in one shot. I was very proud of my editing and couldn't wait to show my teammates. Here's where the real problem occurred.

The Music I Chose

Image
A round 2 months ago when we started the project our teachers instructed us to get royalties for a song we wanted to use. The other option was to use royalty free music in our project. We each sent out a message to music companies for permission to use a song. I sent a message The Universal Music Publishing Group to use the Once by Pearl Jam. Andy sent out a message to Courtney Love, the wife of the famous Kurt Cobain. I knew from the start it was preposterous to contact her because she never even lets movie companies, video game companies, etc use Nirvanas songs. Still, Andy sent out a message for royalty rights to Something In The Way. Finally, I sent out an email to Hipgnosis Songs to ask for royalty rights to Metallica’s song for whom the bell tolls. Now, 2 months later, and all of us got no response from these music companies on whether we can use the royalties. I went on a hunt for good songs that are royalty free and I found around 5 good songs, all under the Creative Commons li

Filming the Final Scenes

Image
On 3/19 we tried to complete the final 10 scenes. We all drove to our filming location together. But before we knew it, it started raining again. We tried to wait it out by going to get some lunch. We came back to the location after lunch and it was still raining. After this unfortunate rain appeared we decided we would go back to our backup filming location once again. We were able to complete the scenes 21-25. We decided that the next time we came out was going to be the last time we had to film. But after we went out the next weekend and filmed the last scenes we went home to realize the file that we were saving the videos on were corrupted. This set us back because Andy our group member wasn't free for another week. This means we would have to wait to record the last scenes since he was acting as the main protagonist in our film. The weekend finally came and all our groupmates were free to go to our filming location. We all met up at my house and we decided we would go over the

First Scenes Filmed

Image
Our group started filming on 2/26. The first part we filmed were scenes 1-4. The weather on 2/26 was good because it didn't rain which allowed us to use our main filming location instead of our backup plan. But on 2/27 it did rain when we were trying to film scenes 5-10. This made us have to go to our backup location. Our backup location is an abandoned house because it provides the same dark and menacing mood as a dark alleyway. After finishing the filming parts for scenes 1-10 we recorded the voiceovers for those scenes. Then on 3/5 we tried to film scenes 11-15 which included most of the action in our film. Since these scenes included more action we were only able to complete up until scene 14. The next day on 3/13 it was drizzling outside but instead of going to our backup location we waited because it was just a slight bit of rain. The rain eventually went away and we continued and finished filming scenes 15-20. On the next day we worked on the voiceovers for scenes 11-20 and

Scene 19   The scene transitions to the protagonist in their bedroom, laying down in the late thinking   Protagonist (voiceover): how long will it be? A month? A week? No, he’s the type of guy to go all out in force the earliest he could.   Scene 20   An overnight transition to the next day   Non diegetic sound: foot steps of the protagonist from his movement   Protagonist: new day huh? I guess I could rub some time off by walking.   Protag’s friend: Hey ‘Andy’!
